The Rare Barrel, Berkeley's New Sour Beer Brewery, Opens to the Public

Posted By on Fri, Dec 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM

It's been nearly 9 months since we started the conversation about The Rare Barrel, Berkeley's barrel-aged sour beer brewery. Assuming you're like us, you've been patiently twiddling your thumbs and salivating, awaiting the inaugural releases from a brewery built around brews that take nearly a year (or more) to create. Next week, your best holiday gift might be the opportunity to sample the starting lineup. On December 27th, The Rare Barrel's beers become a lot less ... rare.

The tasting room will be open on Fridays and Saturdays, offering up eight house sours, two guest taps, and two wine taps. A couple of panini options and side salads will be available for noshing. The tasting room is inside of the production facility, allowing guests a view of the barrel storage and fermentation areas. The open floor plan also means that the entire place is set to barrel-aging temperature, so be sure to bundle up for your visit.

Expect to see The Rare Barrel's sours trickling onto taps at local craft houses, and their first bottled release (an oak-aged golden sour called SKUs Me) will hit the shelves around February/March. See the pertinent details and opening taplist, below:

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
