Celebrate Dungeness Season at Crab Feed For a Cause

Dungeness crab season is upon us. Though my go-to is always and forever the inestimable Swan's Oyster Depot, and others swear by the salt-and-pepper crab at R&G Lounge in Chinatown, there's something about a massive crab feed that brings out the hedonistic best among people. Especially when it's for a good cause. Here's a pair of crabby feasts that benefit various food organizations around the Bay.

Holy Crab! Dungeness Feast and Benefit Dinner

When: Sunday, Dec. 15, 5-9 p.m.

Where: Good Eggs, 630 Tennessee

Cost: $75, tickets available on the Good Eggs website

The rundown: Grocery delivery service Good Eggs is hosting a benefit for Fair Share Community Supported Fisheries, the second annual Dungeness Feast and Benefit Dinner. Chef Kirsten Goldberg will prepare a multi-course dinner with appetizers, soup, salad, and piles of crab served two ways: Heavenly (steamed and served with melted butter) and Hella Delicious (spice-rubbed and roasted). Dessert is included, BYOB/W. Proceeds benefit the launch of Slow Fish USA in the Bay Area, and Captain John Mellor of the fishing vessel High Hopes will be on hand to add some maritime color.

Slow Crab Dinner

When: Saturday, Dec. 7, 6-9 p.m.

Where: Woman's Building, 3543 18th St.

Cost: $80, tickets available on Eventbrite

The rundown: This benefit for Slow Food SF offers a family-style dinner featuring fresh local crab from Monterey Fish Market, served with salad and Baia Pasta. Students of the SF Culinary School and CCA will be preparing the crab and salad; the pasta will be prepared by Hillside Supperclub. Entry cost includes food, dessert and two beer tickets; additional beer tickets will be $5, and wine will be available for $20 a bottle.
