Things are about to get dark. Like, literally. Next week, Daylight Saving Time ends and we'll be forced to "fall back." As our hibernation instincts come to the fore, we'll crave richer, boozier beverages designed to fend off the winter chill. For such occasions, there's no better libation than imperial stouts -- the beer equivalent of cozying up to the fire with your snuggie and a cup of cocoa.

Imperial (or "double") stouts typically exceed 8% ABV and are characterized by their jet-black appearance and heavily malty, deeply roasted flavors. Notes of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits mingle with a warming alcohol presence to create a complex, satisfying experience. More than 20 of the Top 50 beers on are imperial stouts, a testament to their widespread popularity.

This week, you'll have an opportunity to try some of the best and most sought-after imperial stouts on the market, all in one place (bring a spare liver). The first annual Imperial Stout Festival at The Trappist will boast more than 15 rare, viscous treats. To boot, Chef Roark will be serving a traditional carbonnade flamande, a hearty beef stew made with imperial stout. See below for your one-way trip to a fantastic nap:

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
