New Mission-Centric Cookbook Pairs Restaurants with Local Artists

If you've ever wanted an illustrated recipe for Farina's pesto, La Taqueria's hot sauce, or El Rio's margarita, you're in luck. Arts & Eats is a new cookbook that pairs more than 25 Mission restaurants with artists from Creativity Explored, a neighborhood arts organization, and benefits both it and the animal rescue organization Creative Rescue.

The cookbook's quirky art and standing easel layout (it's only 6.5" x 6.5") makes it more of a conversation piece than a book of recipes, but beneath the cool design is a collection of some of the neighborhood's best restaurants.

Recipes include lemon-cornmeal pancakes from Bugaloo's (the brunch spot that has featured Creativity Explored art on its walls for years); pappardelle and pork sugo from Delfina; Chonquing chicken wings from Mission Chinese Food; cured halibut with plums from Local's Corner; black cioppino from Central Kitchen; chocolate oatmeal walnut cookies from Tartine; the Polar Bear cocktail from Trick Dog; and many more.

Other restaurants featured include Beretta, Locanda, 20 Spot, Bi-Rite Creamery, Bar Tartine, Foreign Cinema, Frances, St. Vincent, Flour + Water, Range, Lolo, Mozzeria, Southpaw BBQ, and The Vestry.
