They're not monkeying around at Foster City's new lunch destination, The Sandwich Monkey, located in the shadow of the San Mateo Bridge's entrance. The Sandwich Monkey is the vision of a local family looking to spruce up the usually monotonous midday sandwich and salad routine with several unique options--and an adorable mascot, of course. Diners can choose to make their own sandwich creations, or choose from the pre-designed sandwiches, all of which are less than $10. The "Monkey Business" sandwich features turkey, ham, bacon, and honey mustard, while the "King Louie" is a hot sandwich of breaded chicken, honey baked ham, Swiss cheese, and garlic sauce. There are also soups, an extensive salad bar, and a kids menu with items like a banana-Nutella-strawberry sandwich. Three Plaza View Lane, Foster City; (650) 489-5641.

Redwood City

It's hard to believe summer officially ends tomorrow, so let's briefly welcome the crisp air of fall by thinking about beer. This is the first football season that the Freewheel Brewing Co. and its Redwood City tap room have been open. It's the perfect spot to watch the Niners roll over every opponent, while enjoying the brewery's English-style ales like the Big V Amber, and bites ranging from a steak and stout pastie to the "Gary Burger," a lamb burger with arugula and mint yogurt. 3736 Florence St., Redwood City; (650) 365-2337.

Half Moon Bay

Fall also means pumpkin, and the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company unveils its seasonal favorite Pumpkin Harvest Ale at a release party on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. in its Mavericks Beer Garden. The beer is an amber ale made with sugar pie pumpkins from Half Moon Bay, the self-proclaimed world's pumpkin capital. You bet that the Pumpkin Harvest Ale will be on draught in October at the city's annual Pumpkin Festival. 390 Capistrano Rd., Half Moon Bay; (650) 728-2739.

Palo Alto

The new revamped Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at the Stanford Shopping Center is primed to re-open tonight. After closing its location across the parking lot a month ago, the steakhouse now has its own standalone building. Three outdoor patios with fireplaces are just one of the new design elements, along with a long, curved bar and lounge seating, a first for any of the 65 Fleming's outposts nationwide. The massive wine room serves as the backdrop for the new bar and a reminder that this is a restaurant with more than 100 different wines by the glass. To go with your Cabernet Sauvignon, the menu hasn't changed much. Start with some baked brie or pan-crisped pork belly on creamy goat cheese grits, followed by steak or line-caught swordfish if you're a fish out of water at a steakhouse. 180 El Camino Real, Palo Alto; (650) 329-8457.
