SF Beer Week: Monday Event Roundup

Posted By on Mon, Feb 11, 2013 at 9:55 AM

There's no such thing as a "case of the Mondays" during SF Beer Week. The streets are awash in bubbly nectar, and you need to do your part to consume it. To ease you back into the groove, today we'll focus on casual "Meet the Brewer"-style events.

First, you'll need to leave work half an hour early. Just tell your boss there's beer to drink. Head to Steep Brew to try the newest beers from Heretic Brewing:

Heretic Brewing Company Tasting

Where: Steep Brew at Whole Foods Potrero, 450 Rhode Island

When: Feb 11, 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: Pay per drink

What: Taste the core lineup from Heretic alongside some special new brews. Highlights include Dead Weight Barleywine and Miscreant, a dark sour ale with notes of cherry and chocolate.

From there, you can decide whether to stay local or hit the East Bay. If you venture east, visit this one-two punch of events down the street from one another:

Meet the Brewmaster with Green Flash

Where: Beer Revolution, 464 Third St., Oakland

When: Feb. 11, 6 to 10 p.m.

Cost: pay per drink

What: Rub elbows with the folks from one of San Diego's fixture breweries. Taste a wide variety of rarities, including their First Anniversary Barleywine, a sour Flanders red ale, and Silva Stout, a bourbon barrel-aged masterpiece.

Faction Brewing Debut/Meet the Brewer

Where: The Trappist, 460 Eighth St., Oakland

When: Feb 11, 6 p.m. to midnight

Cost: pay per drink

What: Meet Rodger Davis, founder of the upcoming Faction Brewing in Alameda. Davis is widely regarded as one of the country's best brewers, having previously manned the brew kettle at Drake's and Triple Rock. Taste the brewery's first beer, a collaboration with Drake's. The "Tree Beer" was brewed with 20 pounds of Grand Fir tree branches, which create a piney nose reminiscent of Christmas morning.

Should the BART ride seem daunting, stay local with a tasting of vintage beers at 21st Amendment:

21A Library Stash Tasting

Where: 21st Amendment Brewery, 563 Second St.

When: Feb. 11, 7 to 10 p.m.

Cost: TBD; contact 21st Amendment for details

What: Head to the mezzanine to help raid the 21A cellars. Beer highlights include multiple vintages of Lower de Boom Barleywine, Red Giant imperial red ale, Monk's Blood Belgian strong ale, Ripple imperial chocolate porter, and a 100 percent Brettanomyces-fermented funky brew called Funky Poomedina. No, we didn't make that up.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
