  • Soda Popinski's

What feels better than a few drinks after work with some friends? Simultaneously making the world a better place while doing it.

This Thursday (Jan. 31), Soda Popinski's in Nob Hill will host a happy hour benefitting buildOn, an organization that mobilizes urban youth to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through community service and education. BuildOn's San Francisco Young Professionals board will be guest bartending from 6 to 8 p.m., and offering two-for-one drinks between 6 and 7 p.m. All tips during the event will be donated back to the organization's work in the Bay Area. In addition to the drink specials, a free can of beer goes to each person who donates a coat to the cause.

According to buildOn's website, "Students in our Afterschool Youth Development Programs learn about the concerns facing their local and global communities and then contribute intensive service to help solve these issues. On a weekly basis buildOn program members feed the homeless, tutor elementary school children, pay visits to senior citizens, and so much more -- all contributing to the success of their neighborhoods."

As if we needed any more excuses to booze up during the week. Helping your community is always something to drink to.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
