Recently, a British friend lamented to me about the lack of places in San Francisco to get what is apparently an English staple this time of year: mulled wine. I didn't apologize for our country mostly because I never got an apology for how horrid all the food in England was when I was there -- and because everything my friend says manages to sound incredibly pretentious (it's a line, not a queue!). But because I too enjoy a warm cup of sweet, spiced, red wine this time of year, I did some research and found a few spots around town that are doling it out.

Cafe Prague in the Financial District, Bacchus Kirk in the Tenderloin, and Dell'Uva in North Beach and the Mission are all serving their versions of the drink. Suppenkuche in Hayes Valley is also on board, serving the Austrian/German version called Glühwein. And the Palestinian and Lebanese restaurant Kan Zaman on Haight even has a version on their menu year round.

If you're not the hot wine-loving type, perhaps you are the adult hot chocolate-loving type and would enjoy the chocolate dessert cocktail from new bartender Buffalo LoGrasso at Rich Table (with chartreuse, mint, and a pineapple marshmallow). Or maybe you're into the hot toddy/expensive cocktail scene that would appreciate the $20 "Blue Blazer" at Spruce (with Glenfarclas Bacchus Reserve Scotch, honey, cinnamon, and lemon peel). Or better yet, just go get the hot buttered rum at Smuggler's Cove (a secret blend of sugar, butter, spices, and Eldorado 5 and 12 year rums).

Whatever hot booze you seek, it appears that San Francisco has something for everyone, so drink up (and just call it a line already!).

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
