If you happen to find yourself at Fisherman's Wharf during lunch tomorrow with a hankering for some delicious steamed crab or clam chowder, you might get more than you've bargained for - our news editor Erin Sherbert reports on The Snitch that PETA will be on hand wearing mermaid fins and little else (nary even the seashell bra of Ariel in The Little Mermaid), protesting the consumption of seafood on the grounds that fish have feelings.
Mountain View's Freeland Foods offers a number of quality raw and gluten-free snack items, including bars, chips, and chocolate, but one product is particularly addictive.
If you told Cook E. Monster that you had a cookie that was sugar-free and made with sprouted items that is difficult to stop eating, you would have received a huge side eye; health cookies aren't sexy. But Freeland's Ginger Snaps Super Cookies magically manage to deliver. They're made of coconut, sprouted sesame seeds, dates, and organic ginger powder -- that's it.
Carnivores, start your appetites: Meatopia is coming this weekend as part of the Eat Real Festival.
For the uninitiated, Meatopia is food writer Josh Ozersky's massive festival dedicated to all things meat, and it has been held exclusively in NYC for the past nine years. This Friday's tasting event in Oakland, featuring local chefs from Haven, Bocanova, and Pizzaiolo, as well as some of the country's best meat chefs, is the first Meatopia event held outside New York. But the weekend also includes something extra: a barbecue competition.
We love pop-ups and temporary chef nights, but we hate keeping track of them. Every few weeks we'll bring you a list of the best upcoming events -- all you have to do is mark your calendar.
