As we teased back in June, North Bay sweet shop Sift Cupcake & Dessert Bar has had its sights set on expanding in San Francisco. The first S.F. store is open today (Aug. 22) near the busy corner of California and Fillmore Streets in the former Dumplings and Buns space.
Sift is the type of place that mocks any speculation that the cupcake trend has passed with a round of frosting shots for everyone. Cupcake flavors range from the classics like red velvet and chocolate to the boozy (because blueberry tequila frosting needed inventing) and nostalgic -- our favorite is a take on the coconut, chocolate, and caramel flavors of the Samoa Girl Scout cookie.
Owner Andrea Ballus won an installment of Food Network's Cupcake Wars with Sift's raspberry cupcake with pink champagne frosting. Other desserts on the menu include ice cream sandwiches, whoopie cookies, macarons, and stackable crisped rice treats.
There's some incentive to check it out this afternoon if you're in the area: Free cupcakes are being dispensed until 2 p.m. today.
