This week's SF Chefs festival brings a number of cooking classes to town (see our feature on SF Chefs for more tips on classes that are happening this week). One of the more low-key but intriguing classes on offer is "Go Nuts for Donuts" on August 5 at 10 a.m. at Westin St. Francis. Laurel Davis of Oakland's Donut Savant will reveal her secrets to frying up Chinese egg puffs and then offer tastes of the results during this demonstration class. Tickets are $35 and available here.
Shakirah Simley of Slow Jams (and now the community coordinator at Bi-Rite Market) leads a class and meal from 4-8 p.m. on August 5 at 18 Reasons. "Bourbon, Beef, and Blackberries: Summer Riffing with Shakirah" is a hands-on experience in quick preserving jams and sauces and creating a summer BBQ ribs meal that everyone will share at the end. Tickets are $125 and available here.
