"Crunchy, like crackers -- filling, like bread!" The Daly City-based raw food company Amai Health Products takes the portmanteau to new heights with Brackers.
The snack features soaked and often sprouted seeds for quick, clean energy that doesn't lead to a crash or what the company describes as a sluggish "food fog." There are three flavors -- tostada, sundried tomato and chili chipotle with corn, and cardamom-kissed sesame apple fig -- and the latter stands head and shoulders above the rest with its complexity of sweet and aromatic flavors. All possess a crunch that invites fiendishness/gluttony and is hard to achieve in a raw snack.
Truthfully, these taste a lot more like crackers than bread, but the claim that they're filling is also accurate and the cardamom variety would make for a worthy accompaniment for preserves, cheese, or other typical bread toppers. Find 'em at Other Avenues.
