Martin Mack's Legal Drama, Circolo's Changes, Hi-Lo, and Hi-Lo Club

Posted By on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 4:02 PM

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

A legal dispute shuttered Martin Mack's over the weekend. Haighteration notes the 22-year-old pub was caught up in legal red tape between the long-term owner, Brian Maloney, and a former buisness partner from a different venture. As it stands, the ruiling granted by the courts gave the former partner ownership of Martin Mack's. A sign in the window says the spot will reopen under new management, but time will tell how the neighborhood embraces this change.

Something is astir at Circolo. Eater SF reports the restaurant will close on March 1 and reopen as an event space, but Inside Scoop says that's not the case at all. Starting March 1, according to the Scoop, the restaurant will change its days of operation and become a location for pop-ups and special events on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hi-Lo and Hi-Lo Club: While the monikers are similar, these two forthcoming places are quite different. Eater SF discovers Hi-Lo, the BBQ restaurant slated for the Mission, is looking at June for a possible opening. Meanwhile in Polk Gulch, the pending Hi-Lo Club is still deep into the construction process. Fans of the shuttered KoKo's Cocktails will remember this is the descendant of their old, beloved neighborhood haunt. No opening date for the bar as of yet.

There's a new place to grab dollar oysters during happy hour. Thrillist shares Lot 7 is now open and serving seafood alongside a selection of brews (974 Valencia at 21st St.).

While Central Kitchen and the next door Salumeria were originally slated to open before month's end, a construction delay has pushed the Flour + Water spinoff restaurants' opening to Spring. Grub Street discovers Central Kitchen should open in late April, and Salumeria a few weeks after that.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
