Photographer Alanna Hale, who's been filing SFoodie's "Behind the Menu" series of chef portraits, is working on another project: a portrait every day, which she posts on her Tumblr, alannahale.tumblr.com. Most of them are insiders' shots of
Hale shot the photos for the Mission Street Food Cookbook, and though an MCF cookbook isn't in the works, she's been spending
time in its kitchen every week, documenting the chaos and talent behind the kitchen door, and
many of the photos on the Tumblr come from those sessions. Like this
one. Or this one. These aren't the Selby's glamorous portraits of Danny Bowien and Anthony Myint. Sometimes she accompanies the photos with a story of
her interactions with the cook, sometimes just a quip.
