Bloom Introduces Lady Gin for Ladies

Posted By on Wed, Aug 3, 2011 at 10:15 AM

Bloom, a new gin from the British distiller G&J Greenall, just hit the San Francisco market and you better hide your wife, 'cause it's coming after her lady pocketbook.

Last Tuesday Bloom debuted to U.S. audiences in San Francisco via a presentation at Boothby Center for the Beverage Arts.

The event kicked off with a presentation from consumer expert Maddy Dychtwald, in which she informed us that women can now be doctors! And lawyers! And even buyers of alcohol! Which is, of course, the market they're most interested in. You've come a long way, baby!

After Dychtwald's bizarre presentation on the ever-growing power of women('s money), we were surprised the Bloom bottle wasn't shaped like a penis, a baby, or a Georgia O'Keeffe vagina.

Thank goodness the next person up was Joanne Moore, the seventh master distiller in the history of Greenall's Gin, and the only female gin distiller in the world. Neato!

Moore is one smart cookie (misogynist!), and when asked in 2008 to develop a new product, she saw a definite gap in the market for "floral" gins.

After years of intense research -- please hire us for this -- Bloom lady gin for ladies blossomed, and we're genuinely glad it did, because this shizz is delicious.

It's infused with seven botanicals, with each strong flavors coming together with smooth sophistication. We detected woodsy angelica, sweet chamomile, and tart pomelo upon first sip, and found it excellent straight-up, and strong enough to hold its own in a gin and tonic and various delicious froufrou cocktails.

Even though it's marketed to women, who apparently purchase 65 percent of alcohol for at-home drinking -- our lives are hard, ladies! -- it's definitely strong enough for a man, as there were more than a few of them knocking it back at the event.

The company hopes to get Bloom into retail shops and bars in the upcoming weeks, so look for it at places like Cask and Mars Bar. Now, please insert a "men are from Mars, women are from Venus" joke here, so we can go gorge ourselves on a box on bonbons. ACK!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
