The Grilled Cheese Guy started it.

Last weekend, when we passed him on our way back from the gym, he asked if we wanted a grilled cheese, but we said we were off to review a dim sum restaurant.

He whined about it on Twitter, saying he'd choose grilled cheese over dim sum any day. Of course, dude, otherwise you'd be Dim Sum Guy! We smugly insisted that by preferring dim sum, we were more in touch with the San Francisco palate.

But we don't like to speak for such a large, diverse, opinionated city -- nah, just kidding, we love doing that. However, in this case we decided to take a poll.

It closed yesterday, and the results were convincing.

Dim sum crushed grilled cheese by 65.88 percent to 34.12 percent. How big a landslide is that? Barack Obama beat John McCain 53 to 46 percent. Jerry Brown beat Meg Whitman (remember her?) 54 to 41 percent.

Grilled cheese did worse than John McCain or Meg Whitman. Now that's an ouch.

But is it surprising? It's really not a fair fight: Dim sum has siu mai and shrimp dumplings and Shanghai dumplings and sticky rice in lotus leaf and baked pork buns and roast duck and pork shank with jellyfish and ... grilled cheese has grilled cheese. Maybe with a slice of tomato or something. Not a fair fight.

This election comes with its own hanging-chad conspiracy. We set up the third-party poll software to allow only one vote per person to prevent the grilled cheese fanatics from ballot stuffing; we just hate melted cheese in our computer. But tweets and one comment on the post insist that somehow nefarious deeds held down grilled cheese's chances.

As commenter Chris wrote, "Grilled cheese is awesome too but it must have cheese n bread in each and every single one of them! You got some chicken feet in between them sliced bread? Fried daikon? Jook! c'mon people!"

We contacted Grilled Cheese Guy for comment. He wrote, "The GrilledCheezGuy learned a lot from this poll. He learned that despite a restaurant, a food truck, and a food competition all in honor of the glorious sandwich, he still lost to a food item that most people can not order on their own. He is speechless, just like most of them at a dim sum lunch."

When asked for comment, dim sum said, "Shrimp dumpling. Mushroom and shrimp. Spinach and shrimp. Seafood dumpling. Beef ball. You want? You take. Good."

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
