The rundown: San Francisco's Distillery No. 209, a mere homerun ball away from AT&T Park, is opening its doors once a month for tours and tastings in their amazing bay front facility. The tour includes an exploration of the facility, including the shed where distiller Arne Hillesland prepares the spices and citrus fruits for the gin. The tasting session includes not only the gin on its own, but also a cocktail tailored to your level of comfort -- from "bad memories" to "pass me the bottle."
Each month will highlight a different S.F. bartender with their own set of drinks using No. 209 gin. This month Michael Callahan, formerly of Azul and Gitane will be mixing up this menu:
South Side- No.209 Gin, lemon juice, mint, sugar, Angostura
Frescura- No.209 Gin, lemon juice, Mathilde Pear, Gingembre, muddled fennel
4th Golden Scarab- No.209 Gin, Lillet Blanc, St. Germain, Yellow Chartreuse, muddled thyme, lemon peel flamed on top
Literate Sass- No.209 Gin, Cynar, port, plum bitters, Angostura bitters, sage leaf garnish
If you aren't able to make it this round, the fun continues once a month. Guest bartenders will be announced as the events draw near. As often as possible the tours are scheduled to allow you to visit the distillery on your way to a Giants game. Here's their official schedule for the next three months:
July 28th, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (Away game) August 25th, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (Home game against the Astros) September 15th, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (Away game) Distillery 209: Pier 50, Shed B. 369-0209
