Hodo Soy at Ferry Building, Baby Hawks, and Vegan Judgement Day!

Posted By on Fri, May 20, 2011 at 5:03 PM

Rachel at Vegansaurus visited Hodo Soy Beanery's new kiosk in the Ferry Building and found it all so very delicious. I'll take one of each, please! And I'm not just saying that -- I'm for real. Bring me one of each before I burn this whole place to the ground. Sorry, it's been a long week and I need some chocolate. ACK!!

Vegan Lean Cuisine is coming, y'all! The culinary geniuses at NYC's Candle Cafe decided to package and freeze their glorious creations and ship them to Whole Foods nationwide. I hope that shit is still made delicious because I've been known to be extremely lazy and if I can get my Seitan Picatta fix on by just pushing a button? Oh, what dreams may come! These meals are also good for skinny bitches weight watchers -- you better work for that 250 calorie frozen burrito, heifer!

It's a tumblr dedicated to just vegan pizza. We've arrived.

Hellman's Mayo expands the number of cage free eggs they're buying. Hooray! But you know what would really help the chickens, your tastebuds, and your cholesterol level? WILDWOOD GARLIC AIOLI. Giiiiiirl, that stuff will make you see Jesus -- and in that fantasy, Jesus is covered in aioli and you get to lick it all off his body and it's all very sexual and delicious. What? I just worked the rapture and sex into this post. RESPECT. (ish.)

Doctor Neal Barnard wrote NYC's Mayor Michael Bloomberg asking Bloomberg to consider adding meat and dairy to the list of food that folks can't buy with food stamps. I agree that most meat and dairy is just as bad, if not worse, than soda -- even my beloved Diet Dr. Pepper, king of all sodas/my heart -- but I wonder if making them impossible to buy for poor people isn't just a little bit paternalistic and whole lot classist. Complicated issues, you give me a headache! Why not focus on real food issues, like creating more access to healthy food for all, instead of just banning foods. I mean, it would be nice if they had a choice first, ya know? Ugh, we do everything wrong in this country and I, for one, am ill-pleased. Only a Diet D.P. can save me now! BRB!

McDonald's is gonna start using some cage-free eggs! This is good news because at least they acknowledge that battery cages are scary and fucked, but also, cage-free certainly doesn't equal cruelty-free. Still, a mega-monster like McDonald's saying something is screwed and actually working to correct it is something. And again: WILDWOOD GARLIC AIOLI. How many times am I gonna have to tell you people this!?

Hawk Cam!! Watch baby hawks grow and thrive and become productive members of society/killers in the sky. Also, did you read that story about the eagle and the poodle? That was nuts, right!? In brief: An eagle snatched up a mangy, neglected toy poodle in hopes of enjoying a light snack of dog. While flying to their lunch date, the eagle must've been all, "Man, you're hella heavy! Forget this!" and dropped the poor poodle! Luckily, the dog landed in front of a nursing home and they immediately rushed her to the SPCA, where she went into emergency surgery and her life was saved! Woohoo! Now, she's all adorable and healing and needs an awesome home AND donations to help pay for some dental surgery for her messed-up teeth. To be fair, the teeth weren't the eagle's fault. Anyway, I'm not sure what this has to do with the week in vegan but animals are pretty crazy, right??

And finally, this is what vegans will be eating for judgement day. Fueled by such delectable eats, we'll certainly have all the power we need to fight hell's army. God speed, little soldiers!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
