BarBot 2011

Where: pariSoma, 69 11th St. (at Natoma)

When: Fri., Apr. 1 and Sat., Apr 2, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

Cost: $10 in advance, $15 at the door (21 and over only)

The rundown: We might be generations away from having a HAL 9000 or genuine service droids, but closer than you think to bartending robots. As a boozy prelude to the eighth annual RoboGames (April 15-17), the brightest minds in robotics have created and assembled a party full of mechanical drink-slingers, ranging from a sass-talking vending machine to full-fledged martini-making bots. Go and enjoy a few in the name of "scientific research," in a mechanical version of the Star Wars cantina scene, complete with robot band. And you thought it was hard getting your human bartender's attention.

Tickets at the RoboGames website

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
