A little over a year ago, Samin Nosrat managed to raise some $23,000 in quake relief for Haiti via three bay-spanning bake sales. Sadly, Nosrat finds herself organizing a similar effort for Japan. On her blog, the Pop-Up General Store cofounder and Tartine Afterhours chef is calling all bakers to donate for what promises to be at least a three-location fundraiser on Sat., April 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Just like last year, Nosrat plans to host sales at Pizzaiolo in Oakland, Gioia Pizzeria in Berkeley, and at Bi-Rite Market in the Mission, and in a tweet this morning, Nosrat revealed she's seeking to line up venues in Marin and on the Peninsula. Check out the bake sale's Facebook page, iCalendar the events, and if you're handy with a muffin tin, contact Nosrat at bakesaleforjapan@gmail.com to donate.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
