Unexpected Pairings #2: Wine and Chinese Food

Where: 18 Reasons, 593 Guerrero (at 18th St.)

When: Fri., Mar. 11, 7-10 p.m.

Cost: $85

The rundown: For anyone who grew up grubbing American Chinese restaurant food, the idea of drinking good wine with General Tso's chicken or kung pao shrimp can seem as perverse as pairing the degustation at Coi with a SoBe Yumberry. It doesn't work. But more sophisticated Chinese dishes? Which wines work with those? Find out from Bi-Rite's Trac Le and Linh Phu (they matched wines to Vietnamese food last time), in an evening that promises to be heavy on the education, but with plenty of eating and glass-swirling. Only menu details so far: whole steamed fish and what 18 Reasons tags "a little-known lamb dish." Nice.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
