Last Sunday, San Francisco bartender Michael Callahan (Azul) advanced to the finals in the 42Below Cocktail World Cup. He'll join bartenders Nate Wales from La Condesa in Austin, Texas, and Jennifer Contraveos from the Spare Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in L.A. to represent the U.S. The grueling contest of cocktailing and drinking will be held in Queenstown, New Zealand, Mar. 14-20.
The Americans will face off against teams from Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand, and the U.K. for global dominance, glory, and the title of Cocktail World Cup Champion. Find a recipe for Callahan's semifinals-winning Fugutini cocktail here.
Not content to win merely the semi, Callahan joined the other competitors (along with San Francisco brand ambassador Borys Saciuk) to break the Guinness world record for most cocktails made in a single hour: 1,541. Saciuk alone made an astonishing 233 ― almost as many as he drank the following hour, we're sure.
