Lagniappe Dinner
When: Mon., Mar. 7; reservations between 5:30-10 p.m.
Where: Absinthe, 398 Hayes (at Gough), 551-1590
Cost: $35 for three courses; oysters on the half shell, beer, and wine sold separately
The rundown: New Orleans-themed Boxing Room ― the Absinthe sibling due in April ― offers what it calls its "final preview" dinner, draping itself with green and purple beads (well, metaphorically) on Lundi Gras, the eve of Mardi Gras. A portion of the proceeds from Justin Simoneaux's menu benefits S.F.-based Louisiana wetlands nonprofit For The Bayou.
Menu highlights: Deep-fried alligator with Creole remoulade; pan-fried catfish with crawfish etoufee and grits; red beans and rice with house-smoked sausage and cornbread; praline ice cream sundae
Reservations: Call Absinthe at 551-1590
