La Cocina Salsa Showdown

Where: Café Cocomo, 650 Indiana (at 18th St.), 824-6910

When: Sat., Feb. 12, 5-9 p.m.

Cost: Free

The rundown: If you're still bummed your finely tuned mouse-clicking reflexes failed to score you seats at tomorrow's mac and cheese Battle Royale, you have options. You can either drown yourself in suds at one of the many SF Beer Week events this weekend, or you can spice things up at La Cocina's Salsa Showdown. As the centerpiece of Good Food Month's New Immigrant Week, the contest features at least 14 competitors (talking up their entries here), ranging from picante pros to amateurs who aspire. The event is hosted at Café Cocomo, the Potrero club known for that other kind of salsa, so come ready to work the dance floor. Turn the speakers up at the club's raucous website for a taste of what's to come.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
