Remy Lemoine grew up outside of Paris, and in 1995 found himself among the tree-studded splendor of Stanford University, where he'd signed on to do a two-year post-doc in research chemistry. That was it, Lemoine says: He wasn't going back. He'd done what a lot of people do, which is to fall deeply in love with the Bay Area. Half a career's life in the South Bay pharma industry later, and Lemoine was handed an offer: Relocate to New Jersey or, well ― don't.

Ten months later, Lemoine is still living in San Francisco, pursuing his other life's passion, the one that isn't research chemistry: cooking. And what's the one recipe a French-born chemist might tackle first? Macarons, the filled macaroons that take an exact degree of technical precision to pull off. Lemoine started a food blog ― myqqm.com (short for "Qu'est-ce que l'on mange?" literally "What do we eat?" ― and began teaching classes in SOMA under the name Cooking with Remy. Lemoine is among the baker's dozen of sweets bakers donating treats to SFoodie's One Love bake sale on Sunday, Feb. 13, a benefit for the S.F. City Clinic.

The classes sprang out of Lemoine's attempts to become master of the macaron. "It was actually pretty difficult," Lemoine says. "After dozens of failed batches, I finally got. You can read a recipe, but unless you know what you're supposed to get as a result, it's likely you'll fail."

Lemoine has begun offering savory cooking classes, too. And he's expanded his sweets repertoire to include tartlets. Swing by the One Love bake sale Sunday (Feb. 13) at La Victoria, say hi to Remy, and check his skills with a macaron to support a good cause.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
