Turns out that, while original Darwin chef Vincent Schofield has made a move to Nombe, he's still involved with the tiny SOMA café as a sort of executive consulting chef. David Vogler ― Schofield's co-chef at the deceased Ebb and Flow ― started today as Darwin's more hands-on consulting chef. Vogler says he'll show up frequently to make frequent menu changes and keep an eye on the food (Elias Viviano will continue to do the day-to-day line work). Besides Ebb and Flow, Vogler ― like Schofield ― put in time at Boulevard, was sous chef at Presidio Social Club, and has cooked at Anchor and Hope.
Schofield, meanwhile, recently returned from a well-publicized eating tour of Japan. He says the menu is pretty much the same as it was under Nick Balla (who left at the end of December and is now slated to become chef of Bar Tartine), but that substantial changes are planned for March.
