Fans of fish tacos were sad today to find that the Rubio's location in the food court of the San Francisco Centre had closed -- barely a month after nearby competitor Baja Fresh called it quits.
Earlier this year, a crop of Americanized taco places like Mijita, Tacolicious, and Papito sprouted up across the city, and the taco-fication of San Francisco menus was rampant. It seemed like every restaurant in town wanted to make its own version of a taco or burrito, the answer to its financial woes. Is the closing of Rubio's and Baja Fresh a sign that the Great Taco Wave is ebbing?
