Jews and beer aren't generally associated with one another. As a people, we're typically not big drinkers and when we do imbibe, it's most likely to be an easy glass of white wine or maybe a Dewar's on the rocks.

Saul's Deli and Schmaltz Brewing are looking to change all of that with their Winter Dinner and Beer Pairing next Tuesday night. Five of Saul's dishes, some from the regular menu and some specials, will be paired up with half or full pints of Shmaltz's brews. Diners can order a la carte or choose a three-course prix-fixe menu. Most intriguing to us is a Walter Stornetta Ranch brown-ale chuck roll served alongside a mug of Messiah Bold nut brown ale. Shmaltz's Zak Davis will be roaming the deli to discuss his suds with diners.

Winter Beer and Beer Pairing

When: Tues., Nov. 16, 4-10 p.m.

Where: Saul's Restaurant and Delicatessen, 1475 Shattuck (at Vine), Berkeley, 510-848-3354

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
