Meatless Filipino, Vegan Halloween Candy, and Slutty Pets

SFoodie's roundup of tips, news, and rants from the week in animal-free eats.

• Did you know it's World Go Vegan Week? I bet you didn't because all you care about is the Giants. Well, that's okay. Assuming the team comes back to San Francisco to finish up the Series next week, AT&T Park has vegans covered, with tons of ballpark snacks from vegan hot dogs to sushi. In fact, PETA named it the second most veg-friendly sports stadium in the country. Nice. Turns out the only thing a vegan can't get at AT&T Park is reception on their iPhone.

• In Bay Area celebrity news that doesn't involve Sean Penn or Robin Williams, Twitter's Biz Stone (he's vegan) moved to Marin, and Corte Madera is all a-twitter! See what I did there? So clever.

• I love it when vegans beat omnivores in creating the newest disgusting/delicious food insanity. This week: tempeh bacon-stuffed tater tots. You'll have to make it to L.A. this weekend to learn to make them at Spork Foods, but did I stutter? TEMPEH BACON-STUFFED TATER TOTS.

• Get in the Halloween spirit tomorrow by stuffing yourself with baked goods for a cause. Not sure how that's the Halloween spirit but whatever, it's VEGAN DOUGHNUTS! The East Bay Vegan Bakesale takes place in Oakland Oct. 30, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. All profits go to benefit Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, who will be on site with literature (and maybe real live birds?! Oh, we hope so!), and the East Bay Children's Book Project. If you bring a book to donate, you get a free sweet. Let's promote literacy and obesity at the same time. Yes!

• Let the eating fun continue into the evening tomorrow at In Defense of Animals' Halloween costume party fundraiser. It's another food-centric event, serving up Halloween-themed cinnamon rolls from Cinnaholic , cupcakes from Eat My Love for You, cookies from Violet Sweets Shoppe, and many more spooky snacks. In addition, free-flowing vegan wine, music, dancing, a silent auction, and various costume contests. Terrifying! All the scary fun takes place tomorrow, Oct. 30, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., at David Brower Center, 2150 Allston (at Fulton) in Berkeley. Now here comes the truly scary part: It's $25-$75, sliding scale. But it's for the animals! Unless you're dressed as Scrooge McDuck (awesome costume idea, btw), I think you can handle it.

• If you're looking to play dress-up on your pet this Halloween, look no further than Pawesome's slutty animal costumes for inspiration. Come on, Halloween is just an excuse to skank it up, nothing wrong with showing a little tail, ha-cha-cha. Still looking for a costume for yourself? it's not too late. You can totally dress in all orange and go as a carrot (if you're skinny) or a pumpkin (if you're fat). Another favorite costume idea: Get one fat friend and one skinny friend to go as Jared from Subway, before and after. Although, I think he's fat again? Anyway, if you decide to do this, make sure to go to a Subway and request more vegan options!

• Wondering what to give out to trick-or-treaters Sunday? Look no further than VegNews' list of vegan-friendly Halloween candies. Because it's vegan, it means it's good for you, right? Eat up!

• In non-Halloween news (boo!), Oct. 30 is the grand opening of No Worries, 1442 Franklin (at 11th St.) in Oakland, 4-9 p.m. Vegan Filipino food might have been an oxymoron once, but no longer. No Worries brings it with lumpia, pancit, adobo, and more. The grand opening promises musical performances, a "chef's special" menu, and a ribbon cutting and proclamation presented by an Oakland city official. Oh, you fancy, huh!
