Spice Hound Sniffs Out Bernal Heights, Me and the Missus Can Now Go to Jones

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the

San Francisco restaurant scene.

Marcia G. of Tablehopper reports that Spice Hound (, a frequent presence at farmers' markets, is replacing the Della Terra Organics stand at the 331 Cortland Marketplace in Bernal Heights. The pitch: Tammy Tan will be selling 100 familiar and exotic spices, available prepackaged and by weight, as well as salts and custom spice blends.

Paolo L. of Inside Scoop reports a) that we all missed the opening of Miam Miam Lounge (5856 College, 510-685-1500,, a design shop and ice cream store in Rockridge; b) that it looks like the set from Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; c) that the owners are introducing crepes such as one with pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, and cilantro mousse.


also has first word that Ebb and Flow (598 Guerrero), whose death was

much speculated on last week, is being replaced by an unnamed

restaurant from the owners of Mission Beach Cafe.

The pitch: midpriced dining with more seafood and vegetables. SFoodie

hopes that the architects remedy our expert diagnosis of

why the space is cursed: It feels funny.

UrbanDaddy had first word on the opening of Jones (620 Jones, 614-9265, this Friday. The pitch: a cocktail lounge with a rooftop deck and, in a couple of weeks, food from Oola chef Ola Fendert.

From Grub Street's Jay B., we learn that the pop-up known as EAT (

will no longer be held regularly at 111 Minna. Tommy Halvorson and

Crystal Yang will continue organizing a monthly event at the Ambassador.

Eater SF's Carolyn A. reports that A16's remodel is taking a week longer than previously announced. New reopen date: September 28.
