Gird Your Loins for Omnivore's Tomato Throwdown

Posted By on Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 4:15 PM

Just like last month's stone fruit make-off, Omnivore's next cooking competition focuses on the fruit of the season. Next week, tomatoes get their moment in the sun, oven, grill, or whatever place is required to create a championship recipe. Prospective contestants needn't sign up in advance; they should just either prepare their dish and cut it into as many pieces as possible for sampling or make bite-sized versions. The winner gets to split the door money with Omnivore.

Tomato Cooking Contest

When: Sat., Aug. 14, 4-5 p.m.

Where: Omnivore Books on Food, 3885A Cesar Chavez (at Church), 282-4712

Cost: Free to enter, $5 to taste

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
