Brother Seafood Opens, a San Francisco Taco Glut Blossoms

​The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the

San Francisco restaurant scene.

First off, SFoodie's Tamara Palmer e-mailed us to let us know that Brother Seafood Restaurant (1830 Irving St., 661-8033), whose sign we spotted a few weeks ago, has opened. The pitch: Cantonese seafood from the owners of New Hing Lung on Noriega.

Paolo L. at Inside Scoop discovers that 1550 Hyde Bistro, which is set to close August 14, will be replaced by an Italian restaurant named Seven Hills. The food is from fourth-generation restaurateur Alexander Alioto (yeah, of Alioto's on the Wharf), who has four-star experience and spent two years staging around Italy. Projected opening: fall.

Tacos tacos tacos: Mr. L. also reports on the arrival of Nico's Tacos (1310 Grant), projected to open this fall. The pitch: Tacolicious meets Seoul on Wheels meets Kung Fu Tacos meets ... you get the picture.

Speaking of, Carolyn A. at Eater learns that Dogfather (532 Green), sweet but mediocre hot dog shop, is now Dogfather Taqueria.

One more Paolo L. report: Paul Einbund, consulting wine director at Frances, is replacing Mark Ellenbogen as wine director of the Slanted Door

and Charles Pham's other restaurants. Einbund will continue to help out

at Frances; meanwhile, Ellenbogen's leaving to focus on Bar Agricole, which means the fabled bar might actually open, and soon.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
