The glow through the fog bank can be stunning. Just stunning.
The city's annual
Fourth of July fireworks are set to blow at 9:30 Sunday night. Great views can be had at Aquatic Park (Jefferson and Hyde Streets). If you know a member of the Dolphin Club, this is the best time of year to take them up on that open invite to hang on the club's docks, and BYO everything (including trunks and a swim cap, if you're feeling ambitious, or maybe just crazy). No matter where you end up sitting at Aquatic Park, it's a good idea to plan ahead for what to do
if when the fog rolls in.

Ana Mandara is an easy stroll from Aquatic Park ― the breezy, high-gloss contemporary Vietnamese place has a sexy setting, complete with mood lighting and lush greenery, for a Fourth that's the polar opposite of hot dogs and barbecue. Dishes have names like Whispering Waves (crispy lobster ravioli with mango and coconut sauce) and Fragrance of the Forest (quail with black sweet rice and mushrooms, edamame, and plum sauce). Fancy.

Before the fireworks pop, indulge your sweet tooth at nearby Del Monte Square in the Cannery.
Norman's Ice Cream and Freezes is a small, friendly shop that serves Mitchell's macapuno coconut ice cream, alongside sundaes and scoops.
Kara's Cupcakes' Ghirardelli outpost is another source for sweeties in multiple flavors and hues. Just like those lights in the sky.
