Plans call for staying open till midnight on weekends.
God
damn it's hard to open a restaurant on schedule in this town. After the kind of
media buzz that makes a five-day delay seem like weeks (the launch was expected last Monday), it looks like
Pica Pica will definitely open tomorrow at 11 a.m. The delay had to do with the final flurry of permit sign-offs ― sort of a good thing to hold off for. The Venezuelan arepa joint (spin-off of the Napa original) will open daily, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Although, as owner Adriana Lopez Vermut notes via press release, that might change based on "the rhythm of the neighborhood." Translation: Old drunk guys staggering in at 11:30 p.m. to use the bathroom. Bet that doesn't happen in Napa.
Opening Sat., May 15, at 11 a.m.:
Pica Pica Maize Kitchen 401 Valencia (at 15th St.), 400-5453.
