Maybe you didn't grow up ruled by a Vietnamese mom. You can make up for some of the home cooking you missed at this SOMA coffee and doughnut shop with burgers banh mi, and daily lunch specials. The chicken curry has bulky pieces of firm, boneless meat, and roll-cut carrots chunky enough to appeal to a Clydesdale, only plastic-fork soft. The curry's warm-tasting with cinnamon and bay leaf and muted chile, bleeding into a modest heap of rice. If it's not busy, and you sit near the register, the ladies behind the counter will watch you ― mom-like ― while you eat. If you know what's good for you, you won't leave a scrap of rice.

Latte Express 648 Fourth St. (at Bluxome), 348-8898.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
