The SOMA fish house turns two next week.
Eater PDX was among those pouncing on the news last month that
Anchor & Hope chef Sarah Schafer was moving north to oversee
Irving St. Kitchen, the Doug Washington/Steve and Mitchell Rosenthal eatery named for
the Cambridge, Mass., street where Julia Child lived, due to open in Portland's Pearl District in early May. Last Monday, Peter Janiak ― Schafer's replacement as Anchor & Hope's chef de cuisine ― quietly started work. Janiak spent the last three years at
Presidio Social Club (he worked his way up to Exec chef there), and before that worked the rail at
Boulevard. Expect things to stay pretty much the same at the SOMA fish house, which turns two next week (Shafer's two sous are still in place). Janiak's first task: Beefing up interest in Anchor's happy hour beyond the $1 oyster. "We'll be adding some new things, but it's all still in the developmental stage," Janiak said.
