Opening Tuesday in SOMA: Bar Basic, a Rethink of the Neighborhood Tavern

SOMA's Gallery Lounge might've been the kind of bar most charitably described as chill. At the opening bash next Tuesday for Bar Basic, the Gallery's successor, owner Mike Limanon is hoping for a whiff of taco-truck cool. Limanon's arranged for free tacos (with drink purchases) all night after 7 p.m., along with raffle prizes, and half-price drinks from 6-7 p.m. On normal nights, Limanon (a first-time tavern owner who left a gig in real-estate development) says his totally refurbished establishment should feel like an update of the neighborhood bar, with perks like taco-trucks on weekend nights, maybe other food trucks too, eventually. Semi-private events and theme nights, of course, including Thursdays' Back to Basics, devoted to what Limanon calls "classically made cocktails ― cocktails that your grandfather used to drink, strong and to the point." Maybe more to the point: An innovative kind of bottle service that lets you plonk down for something top-shelf, then leave it in what Limanon calls the vault, safe for future visits, when you might fancy making withdrawals. Find out how to start amassing liquid assets after the jump.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
