A Shot and a Strip: Bacon and Bourbon Happy Hour at KoKo's

KoKo's co-owner Christopher Keith sums it up in two words: dive chic. The
Tunnel Top alums who opened KoKo almost two years ago have just as much enthusiasm for special cocktail offers as they do for so-trashy-you-gotta-love-'em deals like the Bang Bang, a happy hour shot of Ranchero tequila and Modelo for five bones. Further melding high and low, co-owner Justin Mulford started up a
bourbon and bacon happy hour about three months ago. Mulford cooks up a huge batch of applewood-smoked bacon and gives a piece to everyone who orders a shot of the brown stuff. The event has been so successful, it's permanently slated for the first Friday of every month (next sighting: Feb. 5). On all other nights, $7 buys an old-school cocktail made with above-average well spirits. Sobieski vodka, Gordon's gin, Old Overholt rye, and that Ranchero - smoothest of well tequilas - are knee-jerk pours every night.
