Italian black truffle delivery alert:
Cheese Plus (2001 Polk at Pacific) has a limited supply of fresh black truffles for sale. The order just arrived and, given their popularity you probably need to act soon, either by showing up in person at the store, or by calling 921-2001. The weight varies between an ounce and an ounce and a half, and you can get one cut in half (that's a good thing, considering the price: $120 per ounce). Owner Ray Bair e-mailed a picture of some beauties he had at Thanksgiving, resting in a bed of straw and fresh eggs. Bair advises using the truffles by shaving them over holiday scrambles, fresh pasta, or risotto. If that doesn't get you treats with the loved ones, well, we can't help you.
