The snacks we grew up with? Bugles, Hostess fruit pies, and wobbly sheets of lunchmeat, wadded up and stuffed into our mouth. Consider making a meal of snacks from a culture that's turned 'em into some kind of lush art. SF Weekly food critic Meredith Brody suggests idli sambar (lentil dumplings) and bhel puri (puffed rice topped with diced green mango, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and coriander) served with chutney at Dosa on Fillmore, 1700 Fillmore (at Post), 441-3672.
