Share Our Strength Benefit Serves Up Good Food with a Side of Karma

Posted By on Fri, Jul 24, 2009 at 9:29 AM

Considering that on an ordinary night at Masa's, the five-course prix fixe is $95 (wine pairings an additional $59),sans tax or tip, a $150 tariff for five courses and wine that includes tax and tip is something of a bargain. That's what's on offer for a Share Our Strength benefit on August 15th called A Tasteful Pursuit. Proceeds help fight domestic child hunger: a good deal that's also a good deed.

Masa's chef Gregory Short and pastry chef John McKee are collaborating with Mark Dommen, chef/partner of One Market. Also on board: chef Xavier Salomon of the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay and William Werner, pastry chef at Quince. Menu details are still sketchy, but expect amazing summer produce, and at least one surprise: Masa's sommelier Alan Murray has promised to pair Dommen's first course with Stella Artois beer, though wines will accompany the other four courses, including two desserts. Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
