Happy Hour Deals: B Bar

Posted By on Thu, Apr 30, 2009 at 6:02 PM

Though its perch on top of the Moscone North complex might be hard to find the first time you visit, B Bar is worth seeking out at happy hour, when this Boxed Foods spinoff offers some of better values in the generally not-cheap neighborhood, as well as a great view and both indoor and outdoor seating. While officially located at 720 Howard (between Third and Fourth), it might more helpfully be described as in the Yerba Buena Gardens complex, between the Metreon and the Center for the Arts Theater, above the waterfall. If you know where Samovar Tea Lounge, B Bar is just at the other end of that rooftop plaza.

The happy hour deals include selected cocktails for $5 (regularly $9),

sangria for $5 a glass or $10 a carafe, and oysters for $1 each

(regularly $2.75). Unlike most places with dollar oysters, you can

choose any from the day's selection, which the other evening included

Marin miyagi, Pearl Point, and Fanny Bay, all excellent.

The other food on the happy hour section of the menu is just an undiscounted selection of items from the regular menu. Prices are still very good: cheese and charcuterie plates for $12 each (I snagged a few pieces from the platter shown below before I remembered to take a photo), and appetizers such as warm olives, spiced mixed nuts, and truffle fries for $6 each or $15 for three.

B Bar's happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. You might want to keep their phone number handy in case you have trouble finding the place: 495-9800.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
