Mexicatessens, Meat, Flaming Sushi, and Brian Boitano: The Week in SFoodie

Here are some highlights of this week's SFoodie, in case you missed 'em:

• We spotlighted La Palma Mexicatessen (2884 24th St. at Florida), which stocks everything one needs to make a marvelous mole and so much more.

• Our two-part Straight From the Ranch series offers helpful resources for eating locally, from subscribing to meat CSAs and buying networks to purchasing whole beasts and bulk meat.

• Spicy sushi is nothing new, but we found flaming sushi -- where the plate is actually set alight -- at Tataki (2815 California at Divisadero).

• The Bay Area's own Olympic figure skating champion Brian Boitano has just signed on to do a new reality television program -- for the Food Network. With this sort of opportunity, we ask, what would Brian Boitano do?

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
