Celebrate mailing in your tax forms on Wednesday, April 15th by moseying over to Williams-Sonoma on Union Square (340 Post, 362-9450) at 5 p.m., where Top Chef's head judge, hunky-while-bald Tom Colicchio, owner of the many Craft restaurants and catnip to women and men alike, will be signing his new book 'wichcraft: Craft a Sandwich into a Meal -- And A Meal into a Sandwich. (Aka 'wichcraft for short.)

If you're feeling impoverished, there's a panini tasting. (We hope it includes our favorites from his local 'wichcraft outlet at 866 Mission: the fried egg with bacon, gorgonzola, and frisee on ciabatta -- which actually travels very well -- and the slow-roasted pork with sauerkraut, jalapenos, and mustard, also on ciabatta. But whatever they dish up, we bet it'll be good. And have no fear of choking when Mr. Colicchio is in the room. His Heimlich skills are famous.)

If you've got tax refunds to spend, the book is $27.50. And Chef Colicchio will sign it for free.

Jury Duty Lunching Options

Posted By on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 8:12 AM

When you find yourself pulling jury duty at the county courthouse at 400 McAllister (and unless you're some sort of whiny, self-absorbed fascist, you should), it's a comfort to know that there are enough lunching options in the immediate vicinity to tide you over during the deliberative days ahead. A few blocks to the north along Larkin is Little Saigon, home of Saigon Sandwich's awesome banh mi (560 Larkin), Larkin Express's spicy and delectable Burmese seafood (452 Larkin) and the Seven Courses of Beef extravaganza at Pagolac (655 Larkin).

If it's a Wednesday, check out the snacking options at the Heart of the City farmers market in United Nations Plaza (the kettle corn and All-Star Tamales stands are especially worthwhile). And Hayes Valley across the highway offers several tasty places to pass the lunch hour: Patxi's (551 Hayes), one of the few places in town to get good Chicago deep-dish; Caffe Delle Stelle (395 Hayes), a classy little trattoria with hearty pastas at affordable prices; and Absinthe (398 Hayes), which serves the city's finest croque monsieur and plenty of other stuff too.

And if you've only got time to grab a snack and a cup of coffee, the cafeteria down in the basement is surprisingly pleasant, with a nice tri-tip sandwich, daily soups and bountiful salads, baked goods from Raison d'Etre and a wide array of top-shelf potato chips and soft drinks. At least, that's our verdict.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
