This week is World Water Week, and to help organize contributions to this effort, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF Tap Project is collaborating with restaurants around the country to ask customers to donate a dollar or more for what is usually complimentary tap water to help provide clean water to children around the world. A list of participating restaurants in San Francisco is here; you can use this same link to search other spots in the Bay Area (or nationwide).
At this writing, Incanto (1550 Church) still has a few tables available throughout the evening for tonight's Head to Tail dinner, and a table or two after 9pm for Wednesday's. Phone the restaurant at 641-4500 to snag one. For a preview, check out the photos chef Chris Cosentino has posted on Twitter. Above: "Big brain, little brain" with asparagus.

Inspired by last year's creative cooking competition and exhibition called CupcakeCamp and in solidarity with the growing popularity of events (see the recent Grilled Cheese Invitational), the first BaconCamp took place over the weekend. It was a well-organized and smoothly run event that simultaneously demonstrated just how much of a high bacon is currently on in terms of notoriety and how far people are able to stretch one culinary theme.
People were greeted at the door by free stickers and buttons with great slogans like "I'd kill a petite beagle for a bacon sandwich" and "If God didn't want us to eat bacon, why did he make it out of bacon?" People were also offered BLTs by Dr. Bacon, who wasn't an official contestant but just felt the swine spirit of the day.
Name: Couque D'Asses
Brand: Sanritsu
Origin: Japan
Found at: Sunset Super
Cost: $2.59
Ingredients: Flour, chocolate, sugar, shortening, albumen, butter, corn syrup, milk, corn starch, egg, cocoa, salt, wine, lecithin, flavor
Calories per serving: 44
Why I bought it: 99% for the funny name and 1% craving for butter cookies filled with chocolate cream.
Tasting notes: Watch out, because they're so light and delicate that it's not humanly possible to eat just one. (They're tiny.) Also, could the inclusion of wine in the translation of the ingredients possibly be wrong? Where's the wine?
Would I buy it again? Yes, they're tasty.
What other blogs/sites thought of it: Bunnyfoot declares Couque D'Asses to be "hours of snacking entertainment."
"Let Them Eat Cake! Mondays" is a new gift/incentive offered to customers of the Mission Beach Café (198 Guerrero). Order any entree on a Monday night and receive a free piece of cake (white or dark angel food, carrot, or blackout) created by pastry chef Alan Carter (pictured, left, with executive chef Thomas Martinez). Carter's got a fairly tempting selection of sweets, including whole cakes and pies, the latter in flavors such as lemon velvet cream, huckleberry, sour cherry, and pumpkin hazelnut.
