Beautiful peas, green garlic, and cherries are currently filling the farmers' markets.

Spring's bounty will be inspiring our chefs to even greater heights than usual, so this is a swell time to go out to eat or to grab some inspiration from the stalls and cook yourself a vernal meal. The markets are fun to visit any time of the year, but the real excitement begins now.

Try a combo of barbecue, music, and drinks at Danny Coyle's Irish Pub (668 Haight at Pierce) on Sunday, May 25. On the last Sunday of every month, Funk N Chunk BBQ cooks assorted stuff on the grill on the pub's big sunny back patio, with local DJs creating magic with the high-end sound system. Grill fare can include everything from the backyard classics (burgers, hot dogs, chicken) to Funk N Chunk's secret recipes (bourbon-coffee pulled pork, stuffed Niman Ranch steaks, famous spare ribs) and might feature a few surprises.

If you'd like to add a few bargain-priced books about food to your library, the Book Bay Main, the bookstore operated by the Friends of the San Francisco Library, is featuring Food Writing throughout May in a specially chosen section at its store in the Main Library (30 Grove at Larkin, 557-4238), which is open during library hours. You'll find everything from out-of-print classics to review copies at much less than the publisher's price. Maybe you'll find that Calvin Trillin or M.F.K. Fisher you've been longing for.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
