Michael Bauer, Conspiracy Buster: It's Just Shitty Service

As regular readers know by now, I just love it when Chronicle food critic Michael Bauer takes the time to address reader comments and concerns, laden as they usually are with all manner of bitching, whining and, in this case, conspiracy theories. A woman in her 70s writes that she and her companion ("We are good tippers. We do not fuss.") have suffered what she suspects to be case of age-profiling at the hands of an unnamed San Francisco restaurant. Bauer hedges on the ageism issue and heads straight for the service-industry jugular:

"I'm not saying it never happens, but I think in most cases it's simply insensitive, uncaring service rather than blatant discrimination."

Ah yes, the shitty service issue again. And as for the unnamed restaurant, the Chronicle's usual stable of rabid commenters seem to have decided that the accused discriminators are none other than Vietnamese fusion favorite The Slanted Door. But then again, what do they know? Wisdom of crowds my ass.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
