James Loughead is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine. But he's no stuffy, bookish professor -- he's the founder and CEO of Hammarhead Industries, a company that makes custom-built motorcycles, and he'll be in town starting Thursday to assemble a bike in the space of three days at a retail location in the Dogpatch neighborhood.
"I was born and raised in a time when people rode dirt bikes, before suburban living closed in on you," Loughead tells SF Weekly.
After getting his Ph.D. in neuropsychology, he decided to develop his passion for motorcycles by designing a bike that filled the gaps in the mainstream market.

He did it at Daytona in 2010, and he did it at Willow Springs Raceway in Southern California (where he also took first- and second-place trophies in the Corsa Moto Classica) over Easter weekend.
