Tindergram: A New Tech Matchup That Might Not Be So Hot

Posted By on Fri, Apr 17, 2015 at 4:47 PM

When Instagram posts some sponsored pic from a large, bland corporation, by the time many people see it in their feed, it’s got 30K likes and a litany of angry comments from users who are livid over the unwelcome intrusion into their enjoyment of an otherwise free service.

Granted, being forced to “follow” things you never actually chose to follow is jarring — if it feels like a reversal of the observer and the observed, it’s because it is — but Instagram is about to sell out even further, now that it’s buddying up with Tinder.

Posted By on Wed, Feb 11, 2015 at 3:52 PM

  • From Left to Right: @Juantanamero, @EdibleSF, @CoffeeCakesCafe

Food snapshots, along with selfies, plague the Instagram stream. There are plenty of square-cropped, filtered photos out there on the social medium platform: 200 million users with 20 billion posts, to be exact. With that in mind, it can be difficult to sort through Instagram accounts worth following — ones that provide images that satiate our hungry eyes.

So we did some of the  work for you and selected our 10 favorite San Francisco-based foodie accounts. These users vary in occupations — from photographers to tech-savvy chefs and professional writers to food enthusiasts — they all have one thing in common: making the San Francisco food scene appear just as delicious and diverse on social media as it is in person. These user accounts, at one point or another, made us think and exclaim: "That looks good!"

Let us know if we left off any other users worth following. Happy scrolling!

  • Everyone say Instagram!
The social media world of Instagram has stepped out of its double-tap app and is connecting the creative community of San Francisco through face-to-face meet ups. Hosting group outings such as Instawalks (a photo-walk adventure), we didn't know this world existed until Oscar Nilsson shared his mini-documentary on how Instagram is bringing the San Francisco-photography community together. Nilsson's two-minute video captures the new side of creative networking and how social media is acting as a catalyst to these interpersonal connections. As one member puts it, "It makes you feel like you're not alone out there, that there's people like you, people who love art, people who like creation, and I think that's the most exciting part about Instagram too. And you get to have fun and explore a new place." Check out From Followers to Friends:

Top 10 San Francisco Instagram Accounts to Follow

Posted By on Fri, Mar 14, 2014 at 8:00 AM

  • Instagram: @Juantanamero, @Colleenkcummins, @moneal
  • Filter of Choice? San Francisco

Instagram has a lot of pretty pictures floating around. And we mean a lot: about 16 billion have been captured on the photo sharing social network since March of this year.

With over 150 million active users worldwide, it can be difficult to sort through Instagram accounts worth following. And even though we may be entertained by the entries under hashtags like #Iwokeuplikethis,#igersSF, and #SanFrancisco, we get exhausted of sifting through photos of blurry selfies, sepia-toned filters applied on food, and typical black and whites of our municipal monuments.

So we did some of the work for you and picked out our 10 favorite San Francisco-based accounts.

With that in mind, we picked out 10 of our favorite San Francisco-based accounts. These users, listed in no particular order, bring fresh angles to the city we call home and depict neighborhoods, or their workplaces, in a way that is endearing and fascinating. These user profiles, at one point or another, made us think and exclaim: "That's so San Francisco." These smartphone photographers' use of filters and subjects make San Francisco more magical and ethereal than it already is to all of us.

Let us know if we left any other users that are worth following. Happy scrolling!

When we first heard about E!'s new show #RichKids we cringed, our faces contorting as we watched the trailer -- one rich girl asking her friend "Have you ever partied your eyebrows off?"

But somehow this yet-to-debut show just got worse, and it involves the rest of America's young 20-somethings running around after luxury prizes and taking selfies -- we're sure duck lips are encouraged.

The #RichKids press release staring back at us like a rhinestone-studded iPhone 5, "Attn San Fran:.." it announces, preparing us for the deluge of Twitter and Instagram terms to follow:

"Finders Keepers" Invites Fans To Follow Clues Posted On @RichKidsOfBH Instagram, Then Seek Out and Claim Fabuluxe Prizes In Their City From The Most Sought After Luxury Brands."

E! goes on to share that the channel is traveling to 20 various U.S. cities -- San Fran included -- to play an Instagram game of finders keepers. They'll hide five fabuluxe (oh look, it's catching on!) items throughout San Fran on Jan. 16 and then Instagram clues to their followers for them to go find them.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
