Bebe Sweetbriar is one of the hardest working drag queens in San Francisco. The gorgeous and glamorous diva is a singer, talk show hostess, party promoter, and activist — she's a busy girl.

Sweetbriar is now preparing to tour in conjunction with her just released dance single Dontcha — it's her fourth record, and her first after signing with Hit Save Music. (Sweetbriar's previous releases were independently produced.) This new record, Sweetbriar tells SF Weekly, is a cover of the 2005 hit "Don't Cha" by The Pussycat Dolls.

"I have always liked the original," the singer explained. "I used to sing it around the way I heard it in my head with different harmonies and a completely different bridge where the rap used to be in the original. With my first label release, I wanted to put out a song that people were drawn to because of its familiarity and then go, 'but who is that banging out the vocals?'"

Bay of the Living Dead: Thundercrack Returns!

Welcome to Bay of the Living Dead, a twice-a-month column about the horror genre.

Curt McDowell was a San Francisco treasure. The openly gay filmmaker spent much of his short life making bizarre underground films which pushed the boundaries of cinema and of onscreen sexuality. Though rarely screened, McDowell's Thundercrack (1975) is perhaps the auteur's best known work.

Thundercrack is about to enjoy a bit of a renaissance. On Dec. 11, drag superstar Peaches Christ brings the film to the venerable Castro Theater for two screenings, in conjunction with the film's release on Blu-ray courtesy of Synapse Films

The Golden Girls Xmas Drag Re-Enactment Is Officially a Holiday Tradition Now

"If you talk or yell out punchlines, we will send you to Shady Pines," threatens the disembodied voice of Dorothy Zbornak (Heklina) as the raucous audience settles down for The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes. It's been happening for 10 years now, and this version is bittersweet: Cookie Dough, who played Sophia Petrillo, passed away unexpectedly last winter. (She is the dedicatee of 2015's go-round.)

As even the most casual fan of Absolutely Fabulous knows, one of the greatest episodes — if not the greatest — takes place on New Year's Eve, when Eddie Monsoon is itching to go to the ultimate underground party in London (Frankie Knuckles' CD-ROM Dance Happening). It turns out to be rather far away and quite literally subterranean ("in an underground car park in Romsey," as Eddie's addled besty, Patsy Stone, says).

Star Trek lasted only two-and-a-half seasons, but its hold on our collective conscious has never waned. Who among us didn’t think about the Enterprise’s five-year mission to explore strange new worlds upon hearing that Mars had liquid water? We’re not a warp-capable civilization yet, but while you’re waiting, head to Oasis at full-impulse power for Star Trek Live!: Mudd’s Women, a hilarious version of the classic episode directed by D’Arcy Drollinger and Laurie Bushman.

Set Your Phasers to Stunned: Star Trek Live Comes to Oasis

The only Star Trek film that Leonard Nimoy directed (1987’s Star Trek: IV: The Voyage Home) takes place in San Francisco, as the crew of the Enterprise lands a cloaked Klingon Bird of Prey in Golden Gate Park while looking for a breeding pair of humpback whales to take back to the 23rd century to ward off a probe that’s evaporating the earth’s oceans hoping to communicate with the now-extinct species. (Really.)

Miley Cyrus’ VMA set showed drag at its most bombastic, there is another dimension to gender performance that doesn’t necessarily involve confetti cannons and several seasons’ worth of Drag Race contestants. It involves poetry, acoustic guitars, and bearded ladies with all kinds of genitals.

NYC-Bound Lil Miss Hot Mess Waves Bye-Bye With One-Woman Show

Magnificent drag personality, academically inflected lefty, and scourge of Facebook's identity police, Lil Miss Hot Mess goes way beyond lip-synching on the stage. We profiled her once before, actually. Now comes the news that she's moving to New York to get an advanced degree in media studies (don't do it!), so it's time for that most venerable of institutions, the one-woman, one-night-only farewell show. Is That All There Is? happens next Thursday, Aug. 13, at Oasis.

(She'll probably do another one in about seven years when she moves from New York to Muncie, Ind. or Ypsiltanti, Mich. or some other Frost Belt college town, where she moves in pursuit of a tenure-track position at a prestigious institution of neoliberalism.)

If you saw D’Arcy Drollinger’s feces-forward original show Shit & Champagne (or if you somehow missed that tongue-in-cheek homage to ‘70s-era stripper-sploitation), the equally choreographed sequel is nearly upon us. Champagne White and the Temple of Poon debuts at Oasis this Thursday, July 16, and while there may not be as much of a drug whose side effects include total loss of control over a certain sphincter, it’s definitely going to be a deliriously lowbrow evening with lots of filth and glamour.

It may not be Welcome to My Home, the funniest thing in the history of the internet, but local drag queens Mercedes Munro and Katya Smirnoff-Skyy have put together a hilarious, seven-minute video welcoming you into a home that is decidedly not their own.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
